You don’t need many different supplies or equipment to make macrame – but oh boy you do need a lot of macrame cord! Raise your hand if shopping macrame cord is one of your guilty pleasures… ✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻
I confess, I have a closet full of macrame cord. Most of it is off-white cord, but then I also have my stashes of colourful ropes of all forms and sizes. Just the other day I got some really cool braided cord, which is braided with a crochet technique. Can’t wait to try it out!

One of the big questions I hear all the time around Macrame Makers Club and on my Instagram page, is “where can I get the best macrame cord?” or “where can I buy cheap macrame cord?”. Good quality macrame cord can be hard to find and it doesn’t go hand in hand with cheap of course. 😅
I prefer buying good quality soft cords that are a pleasure to work with, but that does mean a higher price tag. Cheaper macrame cord has its uses too – if you’re just starting out, you want to learn a new technique, you’re making a trial piece, or a bigger macrame piece and you don’t really care about the quality of the cord. Or your budget just doesn’t allow for you to spend too much on your cord – it all makes sense!

Best macrame cord shops in Europe

Bobbiny – quality macrame cord made in Europe
If you’re looking for high-quality macrame cords made in Europe, then you may have already heard of Bobbiny’s macrame cords. Bobbiny is a family owned company based in Poland, founded by wife and husband Aleksandra and Tomasz. They recover materials that have been considered waste and create beautiful and durable macrame cords from them. The recycling materials from which the yarn is made are both production waste from factories and consumers in the form of used clothes and other cotton textiles.

Their factory in Warsaw uses no water, dyes, or toxic chemicals in the process of production, and the company continuously works on saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions. If you’d like to learn more about Bobbiny’s sustainability practises, you can read about it on their website.
Whether you’re based in Europe, the United States, or anywhere else in the world, Bobbiny will ship to you, and it shouldn’t take longer than a couple of weeks.

Best macrame cord shops in America
Now let’s change continents! If you live in America, where can you get the best macrame cords? I personally don’t have much experience with these macrame cords, as I live in Europe, but I’ve heard so, so, so many good things about each of these lovely macrame cord suppliers.

Ganxxet – female owned
I would dub Ganxxet as the Bobbiny of America, although also their cords are produced in Europe. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this female owned and operated company and their cords. Just look at all the cord options they have – plus the quantities vary from small spools to big ones!

Holm Made Macrame – mama of three babies!
If you are on Instagram or TikTok, you probably know her. This mama of three puts the rest of us to shame with her inventive videos. And how she finds the time will always be a mystery to me! 😅
Angela from Holm Made Macrame is only 23 years old and already a business owner and mama of three. On her own website she sells high quality 100% cotton cord, some supplies and her own artwork too.
EXAMPLE PRICE: $15 for 100m of 5mm single strand

Flipped – most affordable macrame cord
Flipped is a supplier from China and seems to sell only through Amazon. There are some mixed reviews over the quality of the cord, but the price is quite competitive: 3mm cords for 100 meters (or 109 yards) are on sale for $6.99 and their 300 meter (or 328 yard) spools go for less than $16!

Best macrame cord shops around the rest of the world

Mary Maker Studio – Australia
Mary Maker Studio’s owner is actually not called Mary, but Brydie. Funny fact. 😅 Mary Maker Studio was born out of her belief that art can transform and enliven a space. She sells not only macrame cord, but also various supplies and different cords, for other fiber arts such as weaving. The cord pictured above is handpainted!
EXAMPLE PRICE: AUD25 for 110m of 5mm single strand

JAC Home Heart – Australia
Jamie Cother is a Sydney based Macramé artist with a passion for texture, colour and design. Her macrame cord selection at JAC Home Heart is full of surprises: she even sells Egyptian cotton macrame cords! You know those super soft and expensive cotton sheets to sleep in? Well this is that, but in macrame cord form: long fibres and fine diameter of each strand is what gives this cotton its luxurious shine and softness.
