Is there anything better than a handmade heart-shaped gift? Gift these adorable little heart macrame earrings to a loved one, or to yourself! The heart macrame studs are super easy and quick to make, and warm even the most cynical heart! 💛
Materials & Tools Needed
- Hemp or cotton cord, around 4-4.5 meters, 1mm thick
- Two earring studs and backs
- Sharp scissors
- GS Hypo Cement glue with a precision applicator
- E-6000 glue, or any other strong glue that dries transparent
- Pinnable surface
The ready earrings are about 3/4″ or 1.8cm wide.
Clove Hitch Knot
The only macrame knot you will need for this pattern is the clove hitch or double half hitch knot. Practise makes perfect, so if you’re new to macrame, I recommend you practise it first!
If you’d like to get access to my FREE and ever-expanding KNOT LIBRARY inside Macrame Makers Club with the tutorials for all the basic macrame knots and then some, subscribe to my newsletter: (I promise, I don’t spam! Nobody likes that)
In the photos & video below you see the steps to make a right facing clove hitch knot. By following the same steps but mirroring the photos you would get a left facing clove hitch knot. For this tutorial you will need to master both.
Abbreviations:
- CHR = clove hitch to the right
- CHL = clove hitch to the left

Let’s begin!
- To start, cut 6 cords of 25cm and two cords of 35cm.
- Tie the 6 cords together at one end with a simple knot and pin it to your working surface.
- Fold the 35cm cord in half and pin it at the half way point, on the left side of other cords.
After each row, renumber cords from left to right.
Glue & Cut
- Add GS Hypo Cement glue with the precision tip inside each knot. Let dry.
- Cut the cords as close as you can to the knots.
- Add some E-6000 glue on a toothpick, apply on the earring stud, and glue the earring stud in the middle of the backside of the macrame heart.
And VOILA, your macrame earring is finished! Now be patient and let the glue dry, and make the other pair.
