Pixel macrame portraits, pixel macrame letters and pixel macrame landscapes. What else can you make by knotting many vertical clove hitches one after the other? So many beautiful things!
Technical skills needed for pixel macrame
To make any type of pixel macrame design, you’ll need to master a couple of specific skills, in addition to the vertical clove hitch (which you can learn here):
- Adding new cord (this is useful for both switching colors but also for when you run out of rope too early)
- Carrying cords behind your work (you don’t always need to cut the colors you do not need in the moment)
- Hiding cord ends at the back of your work

Where to get your materials?
I used two different cords for my pixel letters. One is a little smaller than the other, but as you can see in the photos that didn’t really matter for my letters.
The natural white cotton cord is by Macrame Makers UK. It’s a 3mm 4 ply twisted rope, super nice to work with. If you’d like to get this cord, you can use my discount code CURIOUSCRAFTSTUDIO to get 10% off your order. The discount applies for all the products in their shop, so have fun shopping!
The mint green cord is by Lankava. It’s a little smaller, a 2.5mm single strand cord. It comes in a chunky 490m roll!
